This guide will provide instructions on how to download the Smart View Excel Add-In to enable data entry for the Oracle Planning and Budgeting tool
1. Close any Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
2. Click this link and download the most recent version of .NET Framework, current version is 4.8
a. Click the download button, and download 4.8 Runtime, not the Developer Pack
b. The download file is named ndp48-web.exe, if the user loses track of the download file, check the Downloads folder
c. Click on the ndp48-web.exe file to run
d. Click Yes to install application, a message stating this version of .NET Framework is already installed, might pop up, that’s okay
3. Download and install the Smart View zip file
a. Access the zip file through this link: Jan 2023 Smart View Download File.zip
b. Alternatively, use the following link, which requires an active Oracle account: https://www.oracle.com/middleware/technologies/epm-smart-view-downloads.html
Note: Smart View uses a single installer for both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Microsoft Office
c. If the user loses track of the download file, check the Downloads folder
d. Once the download is complete, open the zip file and extract the contents of it into the same folder by clicking the Extract all button
4. Once the zip file is downloaded, navigate into the folder with the extracted files, right-click on the SmartView.exe file, and select Run as administrator to download
a. If the user doesn't have admin rights on their machine, they will need to submit a ticket with ITS
b. The installer will ask for the destination folder, click OK
c. If any Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint or Outlook are open, the user will receive the error message below, close the applications and click Retry
d. The install takes approximately 15 seconds and then displays a success message
5. Verify Smart View installed properly in Excel, open Excel, click File at the top left corner of Excel, then on lower left panel, click Options
6. In Excel Options dialog box, in the left panel, click Add-ins
a. Under the Active Application Add-ins section at the top of the dialog box, verify that two Oracle Smart View Add-ins for Office, the Excel Add-in and the COM Add-in are visible
b. If the two Smart View Add-ins are not listed, skip to Step #6d
c. Close Excel and reopen
d. Open Excel, select File > Options > Add-ins
e. At the bottom of the dialog box, check Manage area, change Excel Add-Ins to Disabled Items, and click Go
f. A new dialog box will display, and select Oracle Smart View for Office, click Enable
8. Restart Excel, the two Add-ins should now be visible
9. After installation is complete establish connection with EPBCS database (KBA link)
