How to Fix Smart View 'Request Timed Out' Error


This guide provides instructions on updating three timeout settings in a users Windows registry to resolve the ‘Request Timed Out’ error message appearing while rendering a form, submitting data, or performing an Ad Hoc query in Smart View. This article is intended to guide collaborative efforts between users and their IT department.

  1. Before doing anything, close all Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  1. Find the search box on the lower left of the Windows taskbar, where the magnifying glass is, and type regedit.

  1. Select the Registry Editor App.


  1. Select ‘Yes’ to allow the app to make changes to your device. Your screen will go dark for about 20 seconds.
  2. You should now see the Windows Registry Editor: 



  1. Navigate to: 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Internet Settings 


  1. You will need to add three timeout settings under Internet Settings: 


                         b. Setting 2: KeepAliveTimeout


                          c. Setting 3: ServerInfoTimeout 

  1. When done, the right panel should display the three new timeout settings:


  1.  Select File>Exit to save.
