Overview
This document explains how Delivery Mode and Meeting Modality work together in Triton Student System (TSS), where each is defined, and how to apply them correctly when scheduling classes and events.
Audience: Department Schedulers and Main Campus (MC)
Effective: Fall scheduling and beyond
Essential Information
Delivery Mode ≠ Meeting Modality
- Delivery Mode describes how the event is delivered
- Meeting Modality describes how a specific meeting or time slot occurs
Both must be set correctly for schedules, integrations, and downstream systems to behave as expected.
Defined Concepts
| TSS Concept | TSS Object | Definition |
| Delivery Mode | D (Event Type) | The Delivery Mode is the format of instruction for an Event. It does not refer to the course or class as a whole. |
| Meeting Modality | E (Event) | Defined as an event with a synchronous meeting. |
| Modality | EL (Event) | Defined as an event without any set meetings. |
Delivery Mode: Delivery Mode indicates the overall format of instruction for a course or section.
| Mode | Meaning |
| REG |
In-Person (Regularly Scheduled)
|
| ONL | Asynchronous Online |
| LON | Synchronous Live Online |
| HYB | Hybrid |
Meeting Modality: Meeting modality specifies the format of the meeting, such as in-person or online. Accurate scheduling is especially important for hybrid courses to ensure the meeting format is clearly defined. When an event has a HYB (Hybrid) Delivery Mode, schedulers must define how each meeting will take place.
How Delivery Mode & Meeting Modality Work Together
- In-Person Event
- Delivery Mode: REG
- Meeting Modality: In Person
- Location: Physical room
- Asynchronous Online
- Delivery Mode: ONL
- Meeting Modality: ONL does not have any meetings defined in the ISA. It is asynchronous
- Location: Remote
- Live (Synchronous)Online
- Delivery Mode: LON
- Meeting Modality: Online, synchronous
- Location: Remote
- Hybrid Event: A hybrid event is taught with a combination of in person and remote meetings. Hybrid behavior is driven by Meeting Modality, in combination with Delivery Mode.
- Delivery Mode: Set at the E level
- Event Delivery Mode: HYB
- Meeting Modality: Defined per meeting record. Example: MWF 8-850 lecture with MW meeting in-person and F meeting synchronously online.
- Monday/Wednesday: In person
- Friday: Online
- Location: Physical location required for in-person meetings
