Setting Up Outlook for Gmail on Windows


Overview


The instructions below will help guide you through the steps required to connect your Gmail to Outlook client on a Windows device. This setup is for UC San Diego Gmail customers that would like the option to use Outlook even though their mailbox is in Google.

Please note: The University's recommended method of accessing your email is through your web browser. For instructions on how to do so, visit Check Your UC San Diego Email from the Web (KB0031945).

Steps to Take


Connect Gmail to Outlook on PC

  1. Open the latest version of Outlook
    1. Type Outlook in your windows search.
    2. Select Outlook.

  2. Enter your UC San Diego Gmail address into the Suggested accounts bar. Click Continue.

  3. Do not enter your password. Instead, click on Select provider.

  4. Select Gmail from the list of email providers

  5. Click on Continue to sync your Gmail account.

  6. Your default web browser will open to the UC San Diego Single Sign-On page. Enter your UC San Diego Gmail credentials (AD login), then click LOGIN.

  7. You'll be redirected to the "Sign in with Google" page to grant Microsoft access. Click Continue to proceed.

    1. Check the Select all box -- this is required to continue syncing Gmail
    2. Click Continue.

  9. An Open Outlook prompt will appear on your web browser. Click Allow.
    1. You'll be redirected back to the Outlook app, where setup will begin. Give it a moment to sync.
    2. During setup, you'll be presented into privacy agreements and options. Review them as you prefer.
    3. You may be asked whether to send optional diagnostic data to Microsoft; choose whichever option you prefer.
    4. Once setup is complete, your mailbox should be ready to use.
