Checking Network Configuration


Overview


The ResNet wireless network requires specific settings to grant your device an IP address to allow you to connect to the internet. If any of these settings are not configured as shown, the ResNet wireless network may not correctly provide your device with a valid IP address.

Steps to Take


Windows 

Check IP address

  1. On the taskbar search, type "Command Prompt."
  2. Right click on Command Prompt and press "run as administrator."
  3. When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes.
  4. Open Command Prompt
  5. Type the command: ipconfig /all

  6. Check to make sure the IP your device is within the following range 100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255 (ResNet IP)

Make sure TCP/IPv4 and DNS server properties are set to obtain addresses automatically

  1. Click Settings > Network & Internet

  2. Under "Status," open Change adapter options

  3. Right click the adapter for the wireless connection and select Properties

  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties

  5. Confirm "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are selected

Mac

  1. Open System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi

  2. Click on Details... for the currently connected ResNet Wi-Fi network.

  3. Go to the TCP/IP tab
    1. In Configure IPv4 select Using DHCP
    2. Check to make sure the IP your device is within the following range 100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255 (ResNet IP)
    3. In Configure IPv6 select Automatically

  4. Click 'Ok' after closing the drop down window or else the settings will not save
