Overview
Instructors in Canvas can choose to show or hide elements in the course navigation menu as they see fit (for the most part). The same goes for Kaltura's "Media Gallery," the section of your Canvas site where everyone can view videos that have been "published" to the course.
This tutorial is intended for Canvas instructors.
Critical Concepts
The process for hiding/showing the Media Gallery is the same as it is with other Canvas tools, but it's worth noting a few things.
- You can't hide the Media Gallery from students but have it visible to you and other admins. You may have noticed that some Canvas tools can be hidden from students but will still be visible to you in the course navigation menu, albeit with a little eye-with-a-slash-through-it icon next to it. Kaltura is not one of those tools, for better or for worse. So the Media Gallery is either visible to everyone or invisible to everyone. What's the implication? Well, you aren't able to, say, hide the media gallery for a bit while you change it around.
- Changing the visibility of the Media Gallery won't affect what's published to it. If you hide the Media Gallery, stuff won't be unpublished from it. So if you were to make it visible again, all the same stuff would be there (playlists, media, etc.).
Steps to Take
As mentioned earlier, hiding or showing the Media Gallery is the same process as it is for any other course navigation element in Canvas. For this reason, we're pointing you to Instructure's official documentation in case things change:
