Overview
Most entries in Kaltura only have one set of machine-generated captions. If your entry has more than one set of captions, however, you can choose to hide the captions from viewers within the player without actually deleting them.
These instructions apply to all UCSD Kaltura users with active directory credentials (instructors, students, staff, etc.).
Hiding captions can be performed in Canvas as well as MediaSpace.
Steps to Take
You can hide captions for an entry within Canvas or MediaSpace, so for the first two steps, choose the column based on where you intend to perform the task.
In Canvas | In MediaSpace |
---|
- Log into Canvas.
- Go to https://canvas.ucsd.edu.
- Enter your active directory credentials.
- Within Canvas, click My Media in the left navigation.
- Locate the video in question and click the pencil icon on its row.
|
- Log into MediaSpace.
- Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu.
- Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
- Enter your active directory credentials.
- Click the profile icon again and select My Media.
- Locate the video in question, click the kebab on its row (three dots), and select Edit.
|
- Click the Captions tab underneath the video player. You should now see the list of captions affiliated with your video.
- Here you'll want to make sure the correct captions are identified to display as selectable options to viewers in the player. You're looking for a small icon that looks like a screen with a play button in it. If it has a slash through it, that means that that caption file will NOT be visible to viewers. If the icon is incorrect for the intended caption file, just click it to change it.
