Configure Ubuntu Linux to use UCSD-PROTECTED Wireless Service


Follow these steps to set up your Ubuntu 8.10 and above Linux machine to use the WPA2-E encrypted campus wireless at UC San Diego, UCSD-PROTECTED.

Steps to Take

Find UCSD's encrypted wireless network:

  1. Find the Network Manager icon in the notification area. It should look like a small signal strength indicator or a computer monitor and will probably be close to the clock.
  2. Right-click the icon and ensure that Enable Networking is selected in the pop-up menu.
  3. Make sure that Enable Wireless is selected.
  4. Left-click the Network Manager icon and select UCSD-PROTECTED

In the Wireless Network Authentication Required window:

  1. In the Wireless Security field, choose WPA & WPA2 Enterprise.
  2. Click Connect.
    • In the Authentication field, choose Protected EAP (PEAP).
    • Leave Anonymous Identity blank.
    • In the CA Certificate field, choose NONE or N/A.
    • In the PEAP Version: field, choose Version 0.
    • In the Inner Authentication: field, choose MSCHAPv2.
    • Enter your Active Directory username and password.
