Overview
Just like you can publish videos to courses in Canvas (where they end up in the Media Gallery), you can publish media to channels in MediaSpace. This tutorial will cover how to do that.
These instructions apply to all Kaltura users at UCSD (instructors, students, staff, etc.).
Critical Concepts
Assumptions
- You can publish videos from several different locations within MediaSpace. We'll cover all of them below, but individually they can be advantageous in particular cases. If you want to publish more than one video at a time to the same channel(s), go with method 1 (publish from the list in "My Media").
- You're able to contribute to a MediaSpace channel. You either created the channel or you're a member with sufficient privileges to add media to it.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Be aware of the channel's privacy settings. The visibility of the video you publish to the channel is dependent on it.
Steps to Take
As mentioned above, there are several ways you can publish media in MediaSpace, though it may be more accurate to say that there are several locations from which you can publish them:
- Method 1: Publish from the List in "My Media"
- Method 2: Publish from the Player Page
- Method 3: Publish from the Edit Page
Method 1: Publish from the List in "My Media"
- Log into MediaSpace.
- Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu.
- Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
- Enter your active directory credentials.
- Click the profile icon again and select My Media.
- Find the media you want to publish and click the checkbox(es) on the left side of the row(s).
- Scroll to the top of the page. Click Actions and then Publish from the menu that appears.

- On the screen that appears, ensure that the Publish in Channel tab is selected. (Note that you'll only have to do this if you have privileges to see the "Publish in Category" tab as well.)
- Click the checkbox for the channel in which you want to publish the media. (Note that you can select more than one channel.)
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Method 2: Publish from the Player Page
You can also publish a video from the page where you can watch the video, also known as the "player" or "media" page. You'd get here if you found the video in your list in "My Media" and then clicked on it, or if you clicked on it in a channel.
- Log into MediaSpace.
- Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu.
- Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
- Enter your active directory credentials.
- Click the profile icon again and select My Media.
- Click on the title or thumbnail of the video you want to publish.
- Underneath the player, click Actions, then Publish.
- Select the radio button for Published, if it's not already selected.
- If it's not already selected, click the Publish in Channel tab.
- Click the checkbox next to the channel(s) where you'd like to publish the video.
- Click Save.

Method 3: Publish from the Edit Page
You can also publish a video to a MediaSpace channel from the so-called "edit page," where you end up if you click the pencil icon on an entry in "My Media."
- Log into MediaSpace.
- Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu.
- Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
- Enter your active directory credentials.
- Click the profile icon again and select My Media.
- Underneath the player, click the Publish tab.
- Select the radio button for Published, if it's not already selected.
- If it's not already selected, click the Publish in Channel tab.
- Click the checkbox next to the channel(s) where you'd like to publish the video.
- Click Save.
