Overview
If you're the owner or co-editor of a Kaltura entry, you can download it using an in-player download button when editing it.
These instructions apply to all UC San Diego community members with Canvas access (students, instructors, staff, etc.). Videos can be downloaded in Canvas and in MediaSpace.
Critical Concepts
Prerequisites
- You must be a media owner or co-editor. By default you can't download someone else's media.
Things to Keep in Mind
- You can only download the "source" file. A video's "source" is the original file that was uploaded to Kaltura, which is most likely the largest and has the highest quality.
- For dual- or multi-stream entries, you can only download the "parent" video in Canvas. Multi-stream entries have more than 1 video stream within the entry, which allows the viewer to control how they're arranged while viewing. These can be created using Kaltura Capture, Express/Quick Capture (the web-based recording option Kaltura offers), and by leveraging the Zoom integration. Within Canvas, however, you can only download the so-called "parent" or "primary" source (which is usually the screen capture). While it will include the audio, it won't include any of the other video streams. If you want to download the "child" video stream(s), see our instructions on how to download child entries in MediaSpace. (For some reason, Kaltura allows you to find both the parent and the child in MediaSpace when you search for the former's entry ID.) .
- Viewers aren't able to download your video by default. Only owners and co-editors can download videos like this. If you want VIEWERS to be able to download your video, see one of the tutorials below:

The video should download to your computer.
