ITS Workstation Hardware End-of-Life Services

Overview

ITS Endpoint Management (EM) provides services to our supported customers pertaining to proper management and processing of workstation hardware assets when they reach end-of-life (EOL).

ITS works closely with our partners on the Surplus Sales and Equipment Management teams to provide services that ensure all electronics waste is processed following all UCSD, UCOP, State, and Federal compliance requirements.

What hardware EOL services does ITS provide?

Most assets managed by ITS EM are non-Inventorial; that is, their purchase amount is less than $5,000.

ITS receives a portion of the sales of any assets sold via auction by Surplus Sales. These funds are used to help fund the ServiceNow Asset Management software we use to manage our assets.

Customers that wish to manage their own Surplus process in order to receive reflections from Surplus Sales may request data sanitization services from ITS to prepare assets for transfer. ITS will return them back to you, ready for you to transfer to Surplus Sales for further processing. For specific instructions on how to transfer assets to Surplus Sales, please refer to this page on Blink.

What IT assets should you send to ITS for EOL processing?

As a general rule of thumb, if ITS assisted you with the initial purchase of the IT asset, you should contact ITS to assist you with managing the asset's end-of-life processing.

The following kinds of IT assets can be sent to ITS for end-of-life processing:

When are assets designated for end-of-life processing?

Assets are flagged for EOL when they meet these conditions:

When these conditions are met, we recommend that the hardware be replaced and sent to ITS for processing and disposal.
