Follow these steps to set up your Windows computer to use the WPA2-E encrypted campus wireless at UC San Diego, UCSD-PROTECTED.

Critical Concepts

Before you begin, you must have:

• An Active Directory (AD) username and password. Your username is usually the first part of your UCSD e-mail address (before the @ symbol). If you have forgotten your password, reset it at password.ucsd.edu.
• Windows version 10/11. Any Windows version below 10 does not receive security updates anymore and presents a security risk to the UCSD network.

Steps to Take

Windows 10/11

1. Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon on the bottom right of your screen near the system clock.
2. Click on the UCSD-PROTECTED network.
3. Ensure the "Connect automatically" box is checked and click Connect.
4. Enter your Active Directory username and password.
5. Once connected, the Secure Connect landing page (captive portal) may appear. If it does, you will want to click on the button "Connect to UCSD-Protected".
