Set Up a Conference Call


Overview


Follow the steps below to set up a conference call on your UCSD desk phone for up to 8 individual phone lines.  Conference calls can include a maximum of 2 off-campus parties on the call.

Steps to Take


Digital Phone

  1. Establish an initial phone connection
    1. Call the first person you want to include in the conference call.
  2. Add the second person
    1. Press an available phone line button For instance, if you placed the first call is on Access 1, select Access 2
    2. On this second line, dial the number of the second person you want to add to the conference call
      1. If the number is off-campus, dial 8, area code, and phone number
    3. After the second person answers, press 3.
      • Note: If you call a party whose line is busy or who does not answer:
        1. Disconnect by hanging up
        2. Press the phone line of the first call (Access 1 or Access 2) to rejoin the first party or the conference.
    4. Listen for the conference tone — a long beep. This beep indicates that the second person has joined the first person on the conference line.
  3. Add additional parties
    1. Repeat the steps under Add the second person (step 2) to include up to a total of 8 parties to the conference call.  This includes a maximum of 2 off-campus calls.

Analog Phone

  1. Establish an initial phone connection
    1. Call the first person you want to include in the conference call.
  2. Add the second person
    1. Press the R or Lightning Bolt or Flash button.
    2. Listen for the recall dial tone (3 beeps and a dial tone).
    3. Dial the number of the second person.
      1. If the number is off-campus, dial 8, area code, and phone number
    4. When the second person answers, press 3.
      • Note: If you call a party whose line is busy or who does not answer:
        1. Cancel this party by pressing the R or Lightning Bolt or Flash button once
        2. Listen for the recall dial tone
        3. Rejoin the first person or conference by pressing the R or Lightning Bolt or Flash button again.
    5. Listen for the conference tone — a long beep. This beep indicates that the second person has joined the first person on the conference line.
  3. Add additional parties
    1. Repeat the steps under Add the second person (step 2) to include up to a total of 8 parties to the conference call.  This includes a maximum of 2 off-campus calls.
