UC Learning Center: Disabling Pop-Up Blockers


Overview


In order to launch online courses within the UC Learning Center, pop-up blockers must be turned off. This guide will walk you through disabling pop-up blockers in four supported browsers.

Steps to Take


Select the browser that you are currently using:

Microsoft Edge (version 88.x and above)

  1. Click the Settings and More button and then click Settings

  2. From the Settings page, click Cookies and Site Permissions on the left menu, followed by Pop-ups and Redirects on the right menu.

  3. Click the toggle bar next to the Block option to unselect it.

  4. Alternatively, you may wish to set your browser to only allow pop-ups from the UC Learning Center. On the Pop-up Blocker and Redirects page, click “Add” on the Allow menu.

  5. Type in the URL of the site you wish to allow pop-ups from and click Add. By adding the UC Learning Center (https://uc.sumtotal.host) to the list of allowed websites, your browser will allow any pop-ups from the UC Learning Center while it continues to block pop-ups from other sites. 

Mozilla Firefox (version 88.x and above)

  1. Click the Menu button and select settings.

  2. Click the Privacy & Security panel.
  3. Under the Permissions section, uncheck the box next to Block pop-up windows to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.

  4. If you wish to only allow pop-ups from UC Learning Center, not from every site, click Exceptions to open a dialog box with a list of exempt sites. Type in the URL of the site you wish to allow pop-ups from and click Allow and then Save Changes. By adding the UC Learning Center (https://uc.sumtotal.host) to the list of allowed websites, your browser will allow any pop-ups from the UC Learning Center while it continues to block pop-ups from other sites.

Google Chrome (version 90.x and above)

  1. Click the More button and then click Settings.

  2. Click Privacy and Security on the left menu and then Site Settings on the right menu.

  3. Click Pop-ups and Redirects on the following page.
  4. Under the Default Behavior section, click the radio button next to Sites can use pop-ups and redirects.

  5. If you do not want to allow all sites to have pop-ups click “Add” next to Allowed to send pop-ups and redirects.

  6. Add the URL of the sites you wish to allow pop-ups from. Then click Add. By adding the UC Learning Center (https://uc.sumtotal.host) to the list of allowed websites, your browser will allow any pop-ups from the UC Learning Center while it continues to block pop-ups from other sites.

Safari (version 13.x and 14.x)

  1. From the Safari menu, click on Safari, then click Preferences.

  2. Click Websites and the click Pop-up Windows on the left. Then click the When visiting other websites pop-up menu, then select “Allow.”

  3. If you wish to only allow pop-ups from UC Learning Center, go to the UC Learning Center at https://uclearning.ucsd.edu and repeat steps 1 and then click Websites followed by Pop-up Windows. In the pop-up menu for the website https://uc.sumtotal.host select “Allow.”
