Overview
Zoom recently introduced a new setting in the Zoom Workspace called the "AI Companion Panel", which appears with a "NEW" label in settings. This feature may cause some confusion, as it’s often mistaken for enabling AI notetaking during meetings. However, the AI Companion Panel in Zoom Workspace is currently disabled for UCSD users while it undergoes review and approval.
Important Distinctions
Clarifying the AI Companion Panel and Meeting Summary Options
- AI Companion Panel in Zoom Workspace: This feature is not active at UCSD. It has been intentionally locked by administrators for evaluation. If this setting appears as “Locked by Admin,” this is expected behavior.
- Meeting Summary with AI Companion: For AI-generated meeting notes, locate the "Meeting Summary with AI Companion" setting further down in the Zoom settings. This option enables the AI notetaking feature.
Steps to Take
Enable Meeting Summary with AI Companion
- Access Zoom Settings in the workspace.
- Scroll past the AI Companion Panel option, which will be marked as locked by admin at UCSD.
- Continue scrolling until you reach "Meeting Summary with AI Companion".
- Toggle this option “On” to activate AI-generated meeting notes.
