Overview
Kaltura allows you to add specific other UCSD community members as "collaborators" for any piece of media. You can allow them to publish, edit, or just view your media, but in any of those cases they'll see it in their "My Media."
These instructions apply to all UCSD Kaltura community members with active directory credentials.
Collaborators can be added in Canvas or in MediaSpace.
Critical Concepts
- You must be the owner of the media. You can't add collaborators if you're a co-editor, for example. Only the owner of the media can add collaborators.
- Role definitions. There are three collaborator roles, defined below:
Role | Definition |
---|
Co-Viewer | Can see your video in their "My Media" but can only view it. |
Co-Publisher | Can see your video in their "My Media" and publish it to other courses (Canvas) or channels (MediaSpace) of which they're a member. Not able to edit the entry. |
Co-Editor | Can edit all the details of your video - title, description, captions, etc - and download it. Not able to publish it. |
- You can assign multiple roles. A co-editor alone can't publish a piece of media, nor can a co-publisher alone edit it. But you can assign a user as both a co-editor and a co-publisher if you want.
- The user must have an existing Kaltura account. For Canvas users, this means they must have visited "My Media" or a Media Gallery at least once. In MediaSpace, it means they need to have logged into the site at least once.
- Currently, you can only add collaborators in bulk in MediaSpace. In Canvas, you have to add collaborators on a video-by-video basis.
