Stitch Together Kaltura Media

On 26 June 2024 we enabled Kaltura users at UC San Diego to "stitch" two or more media entries together, essentially creating a longer video in the process. Any UC San Diego community member with active directory credentials can stitch media together.

Critical Concepts

Steps to Take

In CanvasIn MediaSpace
  1. Log into Canvas.
    1. Go to
    2. Enter your active directory credentials.
  2. Within Canvas, click My Media in the left navigation.
  3. Click Add New at the top of the page and select Stitch Videos.
  1. Log into MediaSpace.
    1. Go to
    2. Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
    3. Enter your active directory credentials.
  2. Click +Create at the top of the page.
  3. Select Stitch Videos from the menu that appears.

Now you'll be in the "stitch video" editor. Seasoned Kaltura users will recognize the interface as being quite similar to what you might see when creating or editing a playlist.

  1. Click the text in the "New video name" field and rename the video.
  2. Identify what videos you'd like to stitch together by scrolling through the "choose media to stitch" column on the left and clicking the plus (+) icon next to any entry you'd like in the stitched video.

Finding Media

The list of media you can add to your playlist defaults to your "My Media," sorted by creation date (descending). If you scroll down, you won't be able to scroll endlessly. As a result, you may need to use the search bar to find the media you want to add if you have a lot of media. Use double quotes in your search to help narrow your search results.

  1. There should now be two or more entries in the "Media to stitch together" column on the right side of the page. To change the order, use the two horizontal lines within each entry's box to drag and drop it as desired.
  2. When you're ready, click Create near the top right of the page.

You'll be brought to the edit page for the new entry. It'll need some time to process before it's ready for publication.
