Releasing/Renewing IP


Overview


The ResNet wireless network provides your device with an IP address, but may run into an issue while assigning an IP address and may provide the wrong IP address. These steps allow your device to release the wrong IP address that was granted and renew the correct IP address from the ResNet network.

Steps to Take


Windows

  1. On the taskbar search, type "Command Prompt."
  2. Right click on Command Prompt and press "run as administrator."
  3. When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes.
  4. Open Command Prompt
  5. Type the command ipconfig /release then press enter

  6. Type the command ipconfig /renew then press enter

Mac

  1. Open System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi

  2. Click on Details... on the currently connected Wi-Fi network.

  3. Select the TCP/IP tab
  4. Click the Renew DHCP Lease. Click Apply.

  5. Click "OK" after closing the drop down window.
