Keep a UCSD Email Address After You Leave


Depending upon your affiliation, you may have the option to keep a UCSD email address or setup email forwarding after leaving the university.  Locate your affiliation from the list below to see your options for maintaining a UCSD email address after leaving UCSD.


Former Faculty or Staff

When your affiliation with UCSD ends, you can continue receiving email sent to your UCSD email address by forwarding mail from your address to a non-UCSD address. The email forwarding will continue up to one year from the date of your separation from UCSD.

Health Sciences Staff

Health Sciences staff are prohibited from forwarding email under policy MCP 18.1. Eligible staff, usually retirees, may request a new UCSD email address which can be forwarded to a non-UCSD address.

Emeritus Faculty

If you are emeritus faculty, please work with your department systems administrator or Department Security Administrator (DSA) to extend your UCSD email account into retirement.

Retirement Association Members

If you join the Retirement Association, you have other options for retaining a UCSD email identity. For more information, contact the Retirement Association.


Former Students

When you are no longer enrolled in courses at UCSD, you can continue receiving email sent to your UCSD address by forwarding mail from your address to a non-UCSD address. This forwarding is available for up to one year from the date of your last quarter of course enrollment at the university.

To sign up for this service, please visit Alumni Email For Life and sign in with your Active Directory credentials (this is usually email username before "" and email password).  Then in the Mailbox field, enter the non-UCSD email address you would like emails forwarded to and select Update


UCSD Alumni's Email for Life forwarding service provides a permanent forwarding email address from which Alumni can send and receive emails. Once a user activates their alumni email forwarding address, all messages sent to their alumni email forwarding address will be re-directed to the email address of their choice.
