Cognos Migration Process

Steps To Take


Migration to QA: IN DEV (https://its-cog-dev.ucsd.edu/ibmcognos/bi/):

  1. QA Migration folder
    1. Locate the ‘QA Migration’ folder within the Business User Development subject folder structure.  See example below:



    2. If a ‘QA Migration’ folder does not exist
      1. Create the folder.
      2. Open a ticket with ACT (busintel@ucsd.edu) to create the associated migration jobs.
    3. Add content to the ‘QA Migration’ folder in the same location as you wish it to be located within the associated Production Ready folder in the QA environment. (See Cognos Development Guidelines for more information about Production Ready folders.)

      For instance, the content shown below:



      Will be migrated to the same folders within the Public Folders > Research Administration folder in the QA environment:



    4. Navigate to the IBM Cognos Administration console using the Manage menu:



    5. Select the Configuration tab.



    6. Select Content Administration from the left navigation menu.



    7. Locate the relevant subject folder. Using the above example this would be:



    8. Select the Exports folder.



    9. Click the Run with options icon to the right of the ‘QA Export’ export job.  (If this does not exist, open a ticket with ACT to create the job.)



    10. Click Run.
    11. Click OK.

  2. IN QA (https://its-cog-qa.ucsd.edu/ibmcognos/bi/): QA Migration job
    1. Navigate to the IBM Cognos Administration console using the Manage menu:
    2. Select the Configuration tab.



    3. Select Content Administration from the left navigation menu.



    4. Locate the relevant subject folder.  Using the above example this would be:
      (If this folder does not exist, contact ACT - act-dbwarehouse@ucsd.edu.)



    5. Select the Imports folder.



    6. Click the Run with options icon to the right of the ‘QA Import’ job. (If this does not exist, open a ticket with ACT to create the job.)



    7. Select Upgrade all report specifications to the latest version
    8. Click Run.



    9. Click OK.

    10. The reports from DEV should now be in the QA Production Ready folder(s).
