Set up Voice Mail


Overview


Faculty and Staff can use the voicemail tutorial to setup voicemail for their UCSD extensions and record a name and greeting. The new UC San Diego Unified Messaging system also provides an option to enable the Speech-to-Text feature which allows users to receive email transcript of each voicemail.

Steps to Take


1. Begin the voicemail tutorial

  1. Call UC San Diego Unified Messaging:
    • If you are on campus, call 42000
    • If you are off campus, call (858) 534-2000, and press # to access the system.
  2. Enter your 5-digit extension
  3. Enter your default Security Code "0000"

Note: Your mailbox ID number is the same as your 5-digit telephone extension number.

2. Setup a new Security Code

  1. Press 3.1.4
  2. Enter a new Security Code on the keypad.
    • Must contain only numbers and be at least 4 numbers long
    • Cannot be the same as your previous Security Code
    • Cannot contain single repeated numbers (e.g., 1111)
    • Can't contain consecutive numbers (e.g., 1234)
    • Can't be the same as your extension
  3. Confirm/ verify your new Security Code to complete the process

Note: For security reasons, you must change your Security Code (from the default 0000).

3. Record your name

  1. Press 3.1.5
  2. Press 2 to record your name.
  3. Press 2 to stop the recording.
  4. Press 5 to save
  5. Press 6 to review
  6. Press 4 to rerecord
  7. Press * (star) to cancel
  8. Press # (pound) to listen to this menus options

4. Record your greeting

  1. Press 3.1.3
  2. Press 2 to record your greeting.
  3. Press 2 to when done recording.
  4. Press 5 to save
  5. Press 6 to review
  6. Press 4 to rerecord
  7. Press * (star) to cancel
  8. Press # (pound) to listen to this menus options

Note: You can change your Security Code or recorded name at any time by selecting Personal Options from the main menu.
