Add Collaborators to Kaltura Media


Overview


Kaltura allows you to add specific other UCSD community members as "collaborators" for any piece of media. You can allow them to publish, edit, or just view your media, but in any of those cases they'll see it in their "My Media."

These instructions apply to all UCSD Kaltura community members with active directory credentials.

Collaborators can be added in Canvas or in MediaSpace. 

Critical Concepts


RoleDefinition
Co-ViewerCan see your video in their "My Media" but can only view it.
Co-PublisherCan see your video in their "My Media" and publish it to other courses (Canvas) or channels (MediaSpace) of which they're a member. Not able to edit the entry.
Co-EditorCan edit all the details of your video - title, description, captions, etc - and download it. Not able to publish it.

Steps to Take


In CanvasIn MediaSpace
  1. Log into Canvas.
    1. Go to https://canvas.ucsd.edu
    2. Enter your active directory credentials.
  2. Within Canvas, click My Media in the left navigation.
  1. Log into MediaSpace.
    1. Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu
    2. Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
    3. Enter your active directory credentials.
  2. Click the profile icon again and select My Media.
  1. Locate the video you want to share, and click the pencil icon on the right side of its row.
  1. Click the Collaboration tab under the video preview.
  2. Click + Add Collaborator.

  1. Search for and select the username of whom you'd like to add as a collaborator. (Remember that they need to have a Kaltura account in order to find them, as mentioned in the "critical concepts" section above.)
  2. Identify the role(s) that you want the other user to have. (Use the descriptions above if needed.)
  3. Once you've identified the user and the role, click Add. You'll be brought back to the previous screen and you should see the user listed with the appropriate role below.

You can revoke the permissions that you've provided to any collaborators by removing them from the respective role in the table at the bottom of the "Collaborators" page.
