Share a Kaltura Video Published to a MediaSpace Channel

Overview

If you've published a video to a MediaSpace channel, there's a "best way" to share a link to that particular video, provided that the person with whom you're sharing has permissions to see what's in the channel.

Because anyone can create a channel and add media, these instructions apply to all UCSD community members with active directory credentials. Because channels are specific to MediaSpace, these instructions aren't applicable to Kaltura within Canvas.

Steps to Take

  1. If you're not already logged into MediaSpace:
    1. Go to https://mediaspace.ucsd.edu
    2. Click the profile icon at the top right of the page and select Login.
    3. Enter your active directory credentials.
  2. Click the profile icon again and select My Channels.
  3. Find the channel that the media in question is in and click on the channel's thumbnail.
  4. Find the media entry and click on its thumbnail or title.
  5. Below the video, click the Share button.
  6. Click the Copy button next to the URL in the "Link to media page" field to copy the link to your clipboard.
    • You can use the icons throughout the rest of the "Share" window to post the link to various social media.
    • Note that you can also click the Email icon and your default mail program will open with a message that auto-populates with the link, the title, and the description.
    • If you want your video to start at a certain point for your viewer, click the checkbox next to "Start video at" and enter a timecode (format: HH:MM:SS).

As a reminder, the recipient will only be able to view the media if they have privileges to view the content in the channel.
