Overview

Kaltura can automatically bring over any Zoom video the meeting creator records to the cloud. Previously, UC San Diego had an "opt out" system where every user's Zoom recordings would automatically be transferred to Kaltura.

In Fall of 2026, however, the Zoom integration will become "opt in." Users need to join a Kaltura-specific group that will make it so that all of their Zoom cloud recordings are automatically transferred to Kaltura. 

Critical Concepts

• If you opt-in, it's all or nothing. That is, if you enable the Kaltura-Zoom integration, all of your Zoom cloud recordings will come over to Kaltura. You can't pick or choose which do and which don't. (You can always delete whatever you don't want, of course.)
• Your Zoom entries are still subject to Kaltura's media retention policies. Though our Kaltura media retention policy is more generous than Zoom's, they still need to be watched once in a while in order to be kept in our repository. 
• You can leverage the Kaltura-Zoom integration to create dual-stream videos (or multi-stream videos with more than two streams). It's one of the three ways you can create multi-stream Kaltura videos (entries where more than one video stream plays within the Kaltura media player). • You can still manually download recordings from Zoom and upload them to Kaltura. If you think you might only occasionally want a recording to end up in Kaltura, you can always just fall back on the standard download/upload methodology.

Steps to Take

1. Visit your profile page in MediaSpace and log in with your active directory credentials if prompted.
2. Click the kebab (three dots) on the right side of the page, select Kaltura-Zoom Integration, and then click Opt In.

That's it! You're now a member of the user group whose Zoom recordings will automatically transfer to Kaltura.

If you ever want to turn this integration off, simply return to this menu and select Opt Out (default).
