Overview
Zoom bombing is a tactic by third party users that aim to disrupt public meetings/meetings that have been posted in public. Some of these attackers may do various things to disrupt your meeting, including taking over your screen share feature to share explicit images or videos. It is important to be aware of all the ways you can protect your meeting.
Preventing Zoom Bombings
Take measures to secure your Zoom meetings. While using the Personal Meeting ID is useful when scheduling meetings with your team and other small groups, it is not advisable to use this feature if you are sharing the link with a wide audience or to the public.
When scheduling a meeting:
- Generate Meeting ID automatically: a unique meeting ID expires after 30 days and provides protection if a meeting ID was shared accidentally to a public audience.
- Require Meeting Password: passwords should not be shared outside of intended participants.
- Require authentication: You can make users sign in from the UCSD version of Zoom in order to join your meeting. In other words, only those with a UCSD email will be able to join your meeting.
- Using the Waiting Room feature: Waiting room will allow you to control who will be able to join in the meeting.
- Don't Share Links: Do not share a link to a teleconference or classroom on an unrestricted publicly available social media post. Provide the link directly to specific people.
In Meeting Features:
To address any disruptions that may occur during class, we recommend that you become fluent with your meeting controls. Learn about tools that can help you manage your meeting participants.
