National Science Foundation (NSF) and Kuali Research S2S Guide
The S2S functionality in Kuali Research facilitates submission of federal proposals created in Proposal Development directly to the Grants.gov on-line system. The information and attachments added in the Kuali proposal record will populate the necessary forms and validate just like a live Grants.gov Adobe package. The National Science Foundation is an S2S eligible sponsor, below is a guide to reference when preparing an NSF S2S proposal.
NSF S2S Submission Must Haves
- The Principal Investigator (and up to four Co-PI's) must have a valid NSF profile and ID with a PI-eligible role that is affiliated with UCSD. Obtaining an NSF ID on the day of proposal submission will result in an error, it is recommended to obtain a valid NSF ID 48 hours prior to submission.
- In the Organization and Location section under both the Applicant Organization and Performing Organization tabs, the Organization name for NSF proposals submitted via system-to-system must be 'University of California-San Diego'. This is UCSD's official organization name with the NSF, an error will be created if another name is used.
- If the application is being submitted to a BIO program, the Grants.gov system does not yet support the Proposal Classification Form, which is a required form by the BIO directorate. Due to this form not being supported, it is not recommended to submit via S2S when submitting to a BIO program. However, if an application is submitted via S2S to a BIO program, please use NSF’s Proposal File Update module in Fastlane to complete the BIO form. Proposal file updates are not accepted after certain time frames, refer to PAPPG Chapter III.C for more information.
- The COA file cannot be an xls file, it must be converted to a pdf
