ETS Terminal Servers

Overview

ETS provides a remote access service that allows you to use statistical programs such as SAS, MATLAB, Gauss, R or Stata remotely over the Internet. This allows you the convenience of running jobs that might take hours, days or weeks to finish. You can connect, start your statistical job, disconnect from your session, and reconnect to that same session at a later time, and—when the job finishes—pick up the results.

ETS has three offerings of Statistical programs hosted on our Terminal Servers:

How To Connect

  1. If you are trying to access the Terminal Servers from off-campus, you must connect to the UC San Diego Virtual Private Network (VPN) through the VPN client to obtain a UC San Diego IP address. If you have not already installed the client, download the VPN client for your operating system. Be sure to use the Conventional Installation.
  2. Download a Remote Desktop Client:
    OSClient
    WindowsRemote Desktop Connection
    MacMicrosoft Remote Desktop
    Linuxrdesktop

If you would like to transfer files between your home computer and your ETS account for use on the Terminal Servers, you may either map a network drive or open a folder on the Terminal Servers. To use the resources when off-campus, be sure to first connect to the campus VPN.

    Map a Network Drive

  1. Open "My Computer" by going to Start → Computer
  2. Select "Map Network Drive" from the options in the top banner.
    • Note: When working on a personal computer, select "Connect using different credentials" when logging in. Enter AD\username and your password into the appropriate fields.
  3. Enter \\acsnfs4.ucsd.edu\unix-home\econgrad\username

Open a Folder on the Terminal Servers

  1. Go to Start → Run or press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter \\acsnfs4.ucsd.edu\unix-home\econgrad\username

Note: If you are located in the workstations in the Econ 304 Grab Lab, you may additionally click on the Class Resources folder and select oce-ec-g home directory on iacs5 to connect.
