Operating systems are constantly getting updated by the manufacturers. These updates sometimes fix security flaws or network connectivity issues that may prevent a device from connecting. It is recommended by the manufacturers to keep operating systems up to date as it is the most secure and reliable.
 

Critical Concepts

• Your device will need to have a connection to the internet to complete these steps. If you are unable to connect to ResNet, try moving to a location where you can connect to UCSD-Protected or UCSD-Guest (ie. Geisel Library, Price Center, etc.).
  
• If your device is unable to connect to ResNet or any UCSD networks, come to the ITS Service Desk so we can assist in person.Learn how to contact the Service Desk.

Steps to Take

Windows

1. Select the Start button > Settings  > Update & Security 
   
   
   
   
2. Click on Windows Update on the left list then click on Check Updates. You may need to restart your device to complete the update if there is one.
   
   
   
   
   

Mac

1. Open System Preferences > Software Update
   
   
   
   
2. If there’s an update available, click “Update Now.”
