Quon Family Loan


The Quon Family Loan, previously known as the University Loan, is a private loan program awarded to UC San Diego students that may apply for by May 1 to the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. The Quon Family Loan is a subsidized loan, so no interest accrues while the student is in-school. It has a fixed interest rate of 5% and repayment starts 9 months after your full-time or half-time enrollment ends. Students will be awarded $400 to $5500 per year depending on the students’ need. The aggregate limits are $11,000 for a student who has not completed two academic years of undergraduate work. $27,000 for an undergraduate student who has completed two academic years and is pursuing a bachelor's degree.  To borrow the Quon Family Loan:  

  1. File your FAFSA or California Dream Act Application and provide any requested documents before the deadlines. 
  2. UC San Diego determines who is offered a Quon Family Loan which is displayed and can be accepted in the “Selection” column within the Manage Awards drawer of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Student Portal. 
  3. If accepted, additional requirements pertaining to this type of loan are handled directly between the borrower and Heartland ECSI. 
  4. Once all the requirements have been completed the turnaround time for Heartland ECSI to notify UC San Diego is approximately 3 to 5 business days. 
  5. Loan funds will be credited to your UC San Diego student account.
