Students are eligible for a refund when their student account has an "open credit" (a negative balance).

 

Refund Methods

---

• Direct Deposit (Recommended): This is the fastest and default method. Funds are sent directly to your bank account. Enroll in Direct Deposit here.
• Paper Check: If you are not enrolled in Direct Deposit, a check is mailed to your Current Mailing Address. If that is not active, it is sent to your Permanent Address.
  • Action Required: Keep your addresses updated using the TritonLink Addresses tool.

 

Refund Guidelines by Credit Type

Financial Aid	Automatically refunded after all fees are paid.	Start of quarter or 5-7 days after mid-quarter arrival.
Stipends	Automatically refunded; does not pay other charges.	1-2 business days.
Credit Card	Automatically refunded to the original card used.	After 90 days of inactivity.
Cash or Check	Request Required via the Student Refund Request Form.	Automatic after 90 days of no activity.
Housing	Managed by Housing Administrative Services.	Contact housinginfo@ucsd.edu.

 

Important Policies

---

• Recipient: All refunds are issued to the student, regardless of who made the original payment (except for specific parent plus loans).
• Automatic vs. Manual: Most credits are refunded automatically. However, if you see a cash/check credit and need it sooner than 90 days, you must submit the Student Refund Request Form.
• Graduate Students: If your stipend is processed through Payroll (not your student account), you must set up a separate direct deposit via UCPath.
