Who is the LAO Team?

Overview of the Loan Administration and Collections Office 

The Loan Administration and Collections (LAO) Office administers the collection of Federal Perkins Loans and Campus-Based Loans. The Team provides analysis, financial management and accounting support of student loans funds.  

The current Campus-Based Loans offered and monitored by UC San Diego are: 

  1. California Dream Loan- Undergraduate only 
  2. Quon Loan- Undergraduate only 
  3. University Loan- Undergraduate and Graduate 
  4. Federal Perkins Loan (Financial Aid & Scholarships Office no longer awards this loan) 
  5. Medical and Pharmacy Loans (e.g. LDS, HPSL, and PCL)- Professional Students 

The LAO Team supports all aspects of the Campus-Based Loans such as:  

  1. General counseling about the Campus-Based Loan program. 
  2. Conducting exit loan counseling process (Undergraduate and Graduate students). 
  3. Oversee the Campus-Based Loan records and documentation management. 
  4. Assist with the administration and collections of Campus-Based Loan repayments. 
  5. Works closely with Third-Party Billing Servicer, Heartland ECSI. 
  6. Oversee the consolidation process of the U.S. Department of Education Loan Servicers, Nelnet, Navient, FedLoans and Great Lakes. 
  7. Places past due accounts with Collections Agencies: Alltran, Coast and Williams and Fudge. 

The Loan Administration and Collections Office/Team currently handles Campus-Based Loan inquiries pertaining to students that have separated from UC San Diego. We work closely with the Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) Office to ensure that students do not overlook the initial set up of the repayment process. We do not handle awarding/packaging of the Campus-Based Loans.
