Overview
If you believe a library charge on your student account is incorrect, you may submit a formal appeal. The Library reviews these requests on a case-by-case basis to ensure fairness.
Critical Concepts
- Timing: You can only submit an appeal after a bill has been issued for an overdue fee or a replacement charge.
- Response Time: The Library typically reviews appeals and contacts you with a decision within 5 business days.
- Account Impact: Unpaid library charges can lead to a suspended library account. Significant unpaid balances may also block your ability to register for classes.
Steps to Submit an Appeal
- Review the Fine: Check the Library Fines and Fees page to understand the standard rates for overdue or lost items.
- Gather Information: Have your 14-digit library barcode (found on the back of your UC San Diego ID card or library card) and the titles of the items you are appealing ready.
- Submit the Form: Complete the Library Billing Appeal Form.
- Note: Provide as much detail as possible in the "Reason" section to help the committee understand your situation.
