Overview
TRIP enrollment availability is determined by eligibility rules, enrollment timing, and your student account status. If TRIP is not available in TritonPay, one or more of the conditions below likely apply.
For general information about TRIP and how it works, see our Knowledge Base Article on our Triton Registration Installment Plan (TRIP).
Common Reasons TRIP Enrollment Is Not Available
TRIP Enrollment Period Has Ended
- TRIP is only available during specific enrollment windows each session during the academic year.
- Once the enrollment deadline has passed, enrollment is disabled for that session. No exceptions.
Account Balance Is Already Paid in Full
- Students with a zero balance or fully paid tuition and registration fees cannot enroll in TRIP.
- If you do not see open tuition or registration fees on your account, likely they have already been paid for, and therefore you do not qualify for TRIP.
Ineligible Charges on the Account
- TRIP only applies to mandatory tuition and registration fees.
- Auxiliary charges such as housing, dining, student health services fees, parking fees, course materials, etc. are not eligible for TRIP.
Past-Due Balance or Financial Hold
- Any past‑due balance must be paid before TRIP enrollment is allowed, regardless of what the past-due balance is from.
- Certain financial holds may also block TRIP enrollment, so if you are unable to enroll in TRIP and have an active hold on your account, you should work on resolving your hold first.
What Should I Do Next?
If you believe you should be eligible for TRIP:
- Confirm you are within the TRIP enrollment window.
- Review your account balance and charge types in TritonPay.
- Pay any past‑due balance.
- Check for financial holds.
- If TRIP is still unavailable, contact Student Financial Solutions by submitting a ticket through the UCSD Student Support Portal.
